Child Focused Counselling
Child-focused counselling is for children, young people, parents, caregivers and families.
Child-focused counselling understands that children learn and grow through their environment and are impacted and influenced by the people closest to them.
When we place children at the centre, we aim to see the world through their eyes. We approach challenges through a developmental lens, meeting the child at their appropriate age and stage.
Working collaboratively with children and parents our work includes exploring and assessing:
- Age-appropriate milestones, boundaries, wants and needs
- Age-appropriate communication and social skills
- Developmental trauma and the impact of this on the child and family
- Attachment rupture and the impact of this on the child and family
- Therapeutic parenting approaches and strategies for responding to challenging behaviours
Sessions can include drawing, painting, sand play, play and music therapy, playdough, board games and other creative activities.
With over 25 years experience working with vulnerable children, adults and families, Deanna brings a strong working knowledge of culturally responsive practice, trauma-informed practice and restorative ways to help families heal and grow.
We accept NDIS clients.
